در این نسخه دیگر مانند گذشته شخصیت اصلی بازی Marcus Fenix نخواهد بود. خط داستانی بازی پیرامون چهار شخصیت Cole ،Baird ،Sofia و Garron می‌باشد. این چهار شخصیت به دلیل انجام دادن کارهایی خلاف قوانین باید به پای میز محاکمه بروند و منتظر مجازاتی که توسط سران بالارتبه برای آنها مشخص خواهد شد باشند. داستان اصلی Judgement مربوط به چند ماه بعد از شروع شدن وقایع E-Day است. زمانی که بر پیکره بشر ضربه‌ی مهلکی وارد شد و آنها تصمیم گرفتند با اتحاد، شروع به دفاع از سرزمین خود کنند.
از دست دو تیربار فرار می کنید و کسی با یک Boomshot جلوی شما ظاهر می شود و پس از آن هم یک Sniper را جلوی خود می بینید. اینجاست که به این نتیجه می رسید که مبارزه با Lucastها بسیار دشوار است. یکی از چیزهایی که در Gears of War: Judgment مشاهده می کنید، همین موضوع است. این بازی علاوه بر داشتن بخش داستانی دارای یک بخش چندنفره جدید است.
حتماً می دانید که سری بازی های Gears of War در بخش چندنفره همیشه نوآوری های داشته اند و توانسته اند روی بازی ها موجود در بازار تأثیرگذار باشند. این بازی دارای حالت Class Based است و هر گروه دارای قدرت های خاص خودشان در بازی هستند. یکی از مدهایی که در این بخش چندنفره جدید مشاهده می کنید، OverRun است. Lucastها در این بازی بسیار ترسناک تر از گذشته هستند و شوخی حالی آن ها نمی شود! Epic Games می گوید که OverRun ترکیبی از دو مد Horde و Beast است که سیستم هیجان انگیزی را به وجود آورده است. دو تیمی که در این حالت حضور دارند، پنج مبارزه در حالت ها و کنترل های مختلف با هم انجام می دهند. Lucstها قصد دارند به ژنراتور نیروهای COG حمله کنند و انسان ها هم باید Lucastها را از آن دور نگه دارند. استفاده از تیربارها باعث شده که انسان ها قوی تر به نظر برسند. قابلیت های آن ها باعث شده که در زمان دفاع کردن قدرت بیشتری داشته باشند. سازندگان بازی اعلام کردند که Judgment نیز یک Gears Of War اصیل تلقی می‌شود ولی قرار نیست دنباله‌ای برای این سه‌گانه محسوب شود و تنها می‌خواهد جریان‌های بعد از شروع شدن E-Day را بازگو کند.
