واضح آرشیو وب فارسی:تین نیوز: TIN news: IRU showcased its strategic approach to road safety and security to representatives of different governments and international organisations, on the sidelines of the 2nd Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety last week. President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, opened the conference by emphasising the role of transport and road safety for the social and economic development both in Brazil and worldwide. IRU discussed road safety priorities with the World Bank , UN Economic Commission for Europe ( UNECE ), the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile ( FIA ) and Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia ( TRACECA ). The IRU Academy’s Crash Prevention Programme was met with great interest at a side event organised by the Global New Car Assessment Programme ( Global NCAP ) and Latin NCAP . Participants notably recognised the partnership between the IRU Academy, the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology ( EASST ) and Cranfield University on an e-learning tool for fleet management. “This will increase risk awareness and encourage road safety best practices among professional drivers to reduce the number of accidents and ultimately save lives” emphasised Alejandro Furas, Secretary General, Latin NCAP. Eric Le Corre, Michelin Group Corporate Vice-President of Public Affairs, commented on the innovative IRU-UNMAS Demining project in Afghanistan, citing that IRU activities in this area “deserve recognition and support from the international committee.” Jean Todt, the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Road Safety, was also informed about IRU’s recent work to create the Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport (GPST) – an innovative, global, business and industry led, multi-stakeholder initiative. An agreement was reached to investigate areas of possible cooperation between the GPST and the FIA's High Level Panel for Road Safety in the near future.
